This (browser completely freezes)is a known behaviour when flash (the flash container plugin) crashes, and usually it can be fixed by killing the plugin container process, which causes the browser to become responsive again and display a "flash has crashed" message. However, the loading spinner keeps spinning. However, it stucks at about 5% - 10% and the browser (firefox) / tab (chrome) becomes unresponsive (->process freeze). When clicking the link to view a merge request, I can see the gitlab loading bar starting the request and the loading spinner is spinning.
This explains why disabling javascript works as a workaround for this. It appears that the problem is caused by flash (probably a bad alloc, surprise.). I also experience the same crashes when performing an action on the merge request show view (Close merge request). It does not happen on the merge request list, but on a merge request show view. When viewing a particular merge request, the browser often (about 8 out of 10 times) freezes and completely crashes. However, I have some further information which I hope may shed some more light on the root cause, and the referenced issue tagging (firefox) does not apply to this. This Issue is similar to #342 (closed) and #851 (closed).
